Cochin Despatch Terminal

At Cochin, petroleum products are pumped from the storage tanks of BPCL. The mainline pumps (MP1, MP2 and MP3) take suction from common header. To ensure adequate NPSH for mainline pump, booster pumps (BP1 and BP2) are provided. The product from the booster pump discharge is filtered and metered before it enters the suction of mainline pumps. The fluid is filtered in basket filters to remove the solid particles (of size greater than 40 mesh). The flow is measured using turbine meter. Density meter is provided to measure the density of fluid and the signal from the density meter is fed to the flow computer. Flow computer indicates the corrected volumetric flow rate as well as mass flow rates of the petroleum products being transported. Corrosion inhibitor is injected to prevent internal corrosion of the pipeline. The concentration of corrosion inhibitor in the line is maintained between 3 and 5 PPM so that the internal corrosion rate is limited within permissible values using metering pumps. Scraper launcher is provided at Cochin Dispatch Terminal for pigging. The product is dispatched to Coimbatore through an 18” pipeline. For sectionalizing Cochin-Coimbatore pipeline, fifteen sectionalizing valves are provided.
